Under the Purest Skies: Welcoming Global Astro Enthusiast to Our Bortle 1 Haven

We’re absolutely delighted to share that Mary’s Farm Cottages in Kukerin, Western Australia has begun to attract attention from passionate stargazers and astrophotographers from around the world. With our Bortle 1 skies—some of the darkest and clearest you can find anywhere—we’re proud to be part of the growing movement of Astro tourism in WA.

Most recently, we had the pleasure of hosting Yuichi, an astrophotography guest from Japan, who stayed with us for nearly a week to capture the stunning night skies above our farm. Yuichi spent his nights immersed in quiet wonder, photographing stars, galaxies, and the brilliant sweep of the Milky Way—right from the grounds of our cottages.

With his generous permission, we’re excited to share a selection of his breathtaking images, now featured on our website and social media. These include:

  • “The Setting Orion” – a mesmerising image of star trails gracefully arching over the dark horizon.
  • “The Large Magellanic Cloud” – a stunning view of a nearby dwarf galaxy, rich with stars and a luminous, mist-like centre, clearly visible from our farm.
  • “Eta Carinae Nebula” – a majestic capture of one of the most dramatic and active star-forming regions in the night sky, beautifully framed from our property.

These images not only showcase the celestial wonders visible from our farm, but also reflect the peaceful and awe-inspiring experience our guests enjoy when they stay with us under these pristine skies.

As interest in Astro tourism continues to grow, we warmly invite stargazers, photographers, and nature lovers alike to visit Mary’s Farm Cottages. Whether you’re chasing meteor showers, setting up a telescope, or simply lying back under a canopy of stars, our skies are ready to welcome you.

Stay tuned for more stories from our guests—it’s a beautiful universe out here.
